On October 31, 2019, Justice James Wakiaga denied bail to Jowie, the ex-fiancé of Jacque Maribe, in connection with the murder of Monicah Kimani.

Eleven months after his arrest in September 2018, Jowie remains in Kamiti prison.

The court cited five reasons for denying Jowie's bail application.

Reasons for Denial

  • Interference with the case: The court feared that Jowie might interfere with the ongoing investigation.
  • Threat to himself: Jowie was nursing a gunshot wound, which he claimed was self-inflicted, but the prosecution alleged was an attempt to commit suicide.
  • Flight risk: The court was concerned that Jowie might flee the country, given that Jacque Maribe's house, where he was staying, had become a crime scene.
  • Intimidation of witnesses: The court noted that Jowie owned a gun, which could intimidate potential witnesses.
  • Lack of specialized medical attention: The court found that there was no evidence to show that Jowie could not access specialized medical attention.

Justice Wakiaga emphasized the need for close supervision and protective custody to ensure Jowie's safety.
