On October 31, 2019, the prosecution announced plans to call 42 witnesses in the trial of Migori Governor Okoth Obado and two others accused of murdering Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.
The trial, set to start on December 2, will first feature two protected witnesses, according to the prosecution's plan.
Obado, 60, his personal assistant Michael Oyamo, 40, and clerk Caspal Obiero have denied the charges of murdering the 26-year-old Rongo University student and her unborn baby on September 3 and 4, 2018, at Owade in Rachuonyo Sub-county, Homa Bay County.
Before the trial begins, parties will argue over whether lawyers representing the victims' family can cross-examine witnesses, with a hearing scheduled for November 11.
Obado was released on bail after paying Sh5 million and posting two sureties of Sh5 million each, while Obiero and Oyamo were initially denied bail but later granted a cash bail of Sh1 million each or an alternative bond of Sh2 million.
