Media Max-owned TV station K24 has laid off several employees, including senior journalists and editors, in a move that has left many in the industry surprised.

Among those affected is celebrated Kiswahili news anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga, who has spoken out about her departure from the station.

According to Chidzuga, her contract with K24 was due to end in November 2019, and she had been working on a part-time basis as a news anchor.

Chidzuga, who is also a caterer by profession and owns three restaurants, revealed in a recent interview that she had been working at K24 for only 12 hours a month.

When asked if she would reconsider going back to TV, Chidzuga stated that her focus is now on her catering business and that she has three restaurants to run.

Chidzuga joined K24 in November 2015, after allegedly being fired by KTN while preparing to present a show.

Other senior names that were shown the door include Franklin Wambugu – Managing editor, Swahili, Ali Mtenzi – Deputy Managing Editor, Torome Tirike – Head of sports, Tony Timase – Head of Business, Franklin Macharia – Senior Reporter, and Juma Bhalo – Swahili Anchor.
