On October 30, 2019, the Golden State Warriors' already disappointing start to the NBA season took a devastating turn when two-time MVP Stephen Curry suffered a broken hand against the Phoenix Suns.
Curry, 31, sustained the injury with 8:31 left in the third quarter as he drove to the rim and collided with Suns' Aron Baynes in a one-sided loss.
"It's just a random basketball play, so stuff happens," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr, attempting to downplay the severity of the injury.
Curry had x-rays taken on his wrist and hand, confirming the break, and will undergo further examination by team doctors, including a CT scan to determine the full extent of the damage.
The injury is a significant blow to the Warriors, who were already without departed Kevin Durant and injured Klay Thompson, who is likely out for the entire season.
Even before Curry's injury, Golden State was struggling, and the loss of their superstar will only exacerbate their woes.
Phoenix, meanwhile, is off to a solid 3-2 start to the season, with Devin Booker scoring a game-high 31 points and Baynes finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors' next game is against the San Antonio Spurs, who are one of just two undefeated teams in the league.
