Mediamax Sackings: Employees Face Uncertain Future

On October 31, 2019, Mediamax Networks Ltd informed 160 employees through personal phone calls that they were required to attend a meeting at the Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa, Nairobi. The employees, drawn from various departments, were expected to receive their termination letters and learn about the terms of their exit.

According to insiders, the company has invited counselors and financial experts to provide guidance to the affected employees as they prepare to face life outside the company. The meeting was scheduled to take place from 8am, with the management likely aiming to minimize work disruptions and avoid public attention.

Among the employees who have been let go are 10 K24 TV journalists, including Fred Njiri, Tony Timase, and Torome Tirike. The sackings have left the station in the hands of Eric Njoka and a few reporters, with the company expected to reorganize the team.

Meanwhile, Kameme TV has also undergone significant changes, with the newsroom being sent home after the management decided to shift its strategy towards entertainment. People Daily, on the other hand, has hired former Daily Nation journalist Emeka Mayaka, who has joined the features desk.

Below is the list of employees who have been sacked:

  • Mediamax:
  • Emoo FM:
  • Kameme FM:
