President Kenyatta has been on 31 foreign trips over the last 21 months, sparking questions over value for money.

State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has come to the president's defense, saying foreign travel is part of the job.

On Wednesday, Waita tweeted that the international trips are aimed at advancing Kenya's 'agenda and sphere of influence.'

“One of President Kenyatta’s duties as Head of State is to position Kenya as a force for good and a thought leader in the community of nations,” he wrote.

Waita added that foreign travel to advance Kenya's agenda is simply part of the job, and that the president has discharged this duty effectively.

Recent trips include a visit to Tokyo, Japan, and Sochi, Russia, and a trip to Saudi Arabia to attend the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference.
