On October 31, 2019, the Kiambu County Assembly voted to oust Youth and Sports Executive Karungo Thangw'a in a motion moved by nominated MCA Njeri Bakari and seconded by Ndenderu Ward rep Solomon Kinuthia.
The motion was supported by 51 out of 53 MCAs, with only nominated MCA Lucy Njoki and her Witeithie counterpart Macharia Taki opposing it.
The MCAs accused Mr Thangw'a of sleeping on the job, undermining acting Governor James Nyoro, and failing to attend cabinet meetings, which led to the department not receiving any development funds.
Ms Bakari alleged that despite loan forms being distributed across the county, no one had received money from the Jijenge Fund since its launch.
The ward reps also accused Thangw'a of launching a football tournament that stalled despite significant funds being used, and a driving school programme that trained 1,200 youths but failed to award them driving licences.
A special committee was put in place to investigate the allegations against the executive.
