Published on October 31, 2019, a county assembly committee in Tinet Ward has accused the county government of inaction as public hospitals grapple with understaffing.
Committee on Health Services chairperson Njuguna Mwaura tabled a report highlighting the dire state of hospitals in the area, which mirrors the situation in Mau Narok facilities.
According to the report, the facilities are struggling with serious staffing shortages, with some unable to conduct laboratory services due to a lack of lab technicians.
Chemaner Dispensary, the oldest health facility in the Ward, has not recorded any deliveries in the past six months despite having a state-of-the-art maternity wing.
Private facilities in the area are also struggling, with residents preferring to give birth at home or in neighboring public and private facilities due to the unavailability of nurses.
Residents have expressed frustration with the situation, with some calling for the Department of Health Services and the county public service board to recruit more staff urgently.
MCAs have also criticized the county government for failing to address the issue, despite approving a budget that gave the health sector the lion's share.
