Kenyan companies have emerged as major investors in the East African region, pumping in Sh110 billion ($1.1 billion) in 55 projects across the region in the last year.

According to a report by Ernst & Young (EY), this investment has created 3,100 jobs, highlighting a rising trend of intra-African investment led by South Africa and Kenya.

"Kenya is a major investor into the neighbouring region," said the Africa Attractiveness report, which tracks inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the continent.

Kenyan companies have invested in various sectors, including financial services, and are among the largest recipients of FDI in Africa, with foreign investors pumping in Sh200 billion ($2 billion) in 64 projects in 2018.

The largest investor in the region was the United States, which injected Sh780 billion ($7.8 billion) in 109 projects, followed by China with Sh670 billion.
