On October 30, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Getembe Primary School in Nyamira County, Kenya, where a Standard Eight pupil was electrocuted during a lunch break.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate died while receiving treatment at a local dispensary after touching loosely hanging live wires on a water tank within the school compound.

According to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba, police have opened an investigation into the matter.

Teachers at the school described the boy as a bright pupil, and they were expecting good results from him.

The body of the victim was moved to Nyamira Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
