Kenya women's national football team Harambee Starlets have finally received the green light to report to training, thanks to the government's timely intervention.
According to a statement by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the team will report for residential training camp at Sports Kenya's Stadion Hotel on Thursday, ahead of their 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifier match against Zambia.
As reported by Game Yetu on Wednesday, FKF had been engaged in numerous discussions with Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, to secure funding for the team's preparation.
CS Amina assured FKF that the government would meet the budgetary requests for the team's upcoming fixtures against Zambia, and as a result, the National Sports Fund released Sh3.9 million to the federation.
This amount is part of the Sh17 million budget that FKF had requested from the fund to prepare for Harambee Stars' CHAN 2020 home and away fixture against Tanzania.
With the government's intervention, Harambee Starlets are now set to face Zambia in their Olympic qualifier match on November 8 and 11, 2019, home and away respectively.
