On October 30, 2019, a dispute between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Ministry of Sports escalated when FKF President Nick Mwendwa accused the Ministry of refusing to provide funding for Harambee Starlets.
However, in a timely intervention, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, directed Harambee Starlets to return to camp for residential training.
The team is expected to reconvene at Sports Kenya on Thursday, two days after FKF President Nick Mwendwa discontinued their stay in camp due to lack of funds for their upcoming Olympic qualifying fixtures.
Amina has assured FKF that the team’s budgetary requests will be met, signaling the start of a ceasefire in the brutal battle.
FKF has thanked Amina for her intervention, stating that they believe the Ministry will continue to support Kenyan sportsmen and women in preparing for international assignments.
Simultaneously, the government, through the National Sports Fund, has released Sh3.9m to FKF, part of a Sh17m budget requested for the preparation of Harambee Stars CHAN 2020 home and away fixture against Tanzania.
