On October 30, 2019, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential aspirants Moses Akaranga, Sam Nyamweya, and Alex Ole Magelo vowed to support the national women football team, Harambee Starlets, in their 2020 Olympics qualifiers.

The trio, who are also vying for the FKF presidency, expressed their commitment to mobilizing resources from within and outside the country to ensure the team's participation in the qualifiers.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Nyamweya emphasized the importance of supporting the team, saying, "The reputation of the whole country is at stake, so we must all come together and salvage the situation. I'm calling upon people of good will to come so that we can support Harambee Starlets."

The aspirants also announced plans to meet with senior government officials to solicit funds for the team.

Earlier, FKF president Nick Mwendwa had halted Harambee Starlets' preparations for the Olympics qualification matches against Zambia, citing a lack of funds.

Kenya has already eliminated Malawi and Ghana in the competition and is two ties away from competing at the Olympic Games for the first time in the country's history.
