Four Teachers Caught Cheating During KCPE Exams ¶
Four teachers in Nyandarua County, Kenya, have been arrested for allegedly cheating during the 2019 KCPE national exams.
According to Boaz Cherutich, the county commissioner, the teachers were found hiding in a room where they had received photos of exam questions via mobile phone.
Cherutich stated that the teachers had written down the exam answers on a sheet of paper before passing them to the students in the exam room.
"The photo of the exam paper was sent to the teachers who were hiding in a room. They wrote down the answers on a sheet of paper before passing them to the students," Cherutich said.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter, with the county commissioner describing the level of cheating as "high".
Earlier, 18 officials, including exam administrators and a senior officer from the Matungu police station, were arrested on October 30 for allegedly being involved in the KCSE exam cheating scandal.
The Education Minister, George Magoha, and his Interior counterpart, Fred Matiang'i, had issued a stern warning against those involved in the cheating scandal.
On October 29, the KCPE exams began officially, with over a million students registered to take the three-day exam.
