Published on October 30, 2019, Delta Airlines has unveiled a new terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York, marking a significant milestone in the airport's $8 billion face-lift.

The new terminal, which spans across a 100,000 square-foot concourse, is part of a larger project that will see the airport transformed into an entirely new structure by 2021.

According to the Port Authority, the port will settle $600 million of the total $3.9 billion expenses, with Delta Airlines covering the rest.

The terminal features exciting developments, including more tarmac space to reduce gate delays, restaurants and other amenities, as well as new roads and rail services connecting LaGuardia to midtown Manhattan.

Notably, the terminal incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a system that makes ice at night to help cool the building during hot summer days, and a system that automatically positions passenger boarding bridges.

Additionally, the terminal is powered by a Con Edison substation, with major electrical equipment housed on the upper level to protect against flooding in the event of a major storm.

Located on the eastern edge of the airport, the terminal is the second new concourse to open since the LaGuardia construction project began three years ago.

"It's the first totally new airport in the U.S. in the last 25 years," said Port Authority Executive Director, Rick Cotton.

Seven new gates will begin operating next Monday, with flights to Boston, Chicago, and Washington, and the terminal will eventually have 37 gates across four concourses.
