On October 26, 2019, Vihiga Queens were crowned the Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League champions for the third time in a row, their latest heroics confirmed last Saturday.
According to their head coach Alex Alumira, the team's success can be attributed to team work, as well as the efforts of other stakeholders such as management, sponsors, and the technical bench.
Queens bagged the gong on 67 points, piping closest challengers Gaspo Youth who also claimed the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.
The five-year-old team had a great season performance, winning 22 times, losing once and drawing once too.
Alumira attributed their success to the team's unity, saying, 'There is nothing unique that we have done; everyone knew what we wanted to do so that we can get good results.'
However, Alumira also acknowledged the challenges the team faced, including financial instability and bad weather which affected their training sessions greatly.
Gaspo Youth finished second while Transzoia Falcons came in third with 61 points.
