Published on October 30, 2019, a 100-year-old woman, Esther Wangui, has filed a lawsuit against her daughter-in-law, Jelioth Wanjira, over a Sh15 million property in Nakuru County.

Ms. Wangui, the mother of Godfrey Wairegi, a former Gateway Insurance boss, claims that her late son's wife is planning to steal the property she was given as a gift by her children.

The property, a four-bedroomed house located in Njoro Sub-County, was constructed on land title number Njoro/Njoro Block 5/309.

Ms. Wangui's son, John Gakure, has been delegated the powers of attorney to sue Ms. Wanjira on her behalf.

Mr. Gakure claims that his mother is the legal owner of the land since she was given it by his brother, who bought the land from his other brother, Tom Wairegi, before his demise.

He accuses Ms. Wanjira of threatening to evict and relocate the old woman from the property she legally owns and also accuses her of fraud.

Ms. Wanjira, however, maintains that she and her husband are the legal owners of the property and that it is registered in their name.

She accuses her brothers-in-law of using their mother's power of attorney as a ploy to steal her property from her.

The case will be heard on February 7, 2020.
