Halloween, celebrated on October 31, has become a popular festival in Kenya, with the influence of social media being a major driver of its increasing popularity.

The festival, which originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, has evolved over time to include costumes, games, and other activities. In Kenya, entrepreneurs are capitalising on the festivities, creating holiday campaigns and offers such as ghost-themed cakes and Halloween-themed parties at bars.

According to a report, social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook are also contributing to the spread of Halloween spirit in Kenya. TikTok, for example, has a viral trend known as the 'spooky season dance,' which involves users learning a dance created to the song 'Spooky Scary Skeletons.'

On Facebook, users can access Halloween masks and frames to enhance their images and videos, as well as additional background options for their Facebook posts.

As the world becomes a global village, social media has brought Halloween to Kenya, making it a popular festival among Kenyans.
