On October 30, 2019, the Pam Golding Safari Open was launched at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo, Uganda, marking the addition of a new event to the 2019/2020 Kenya Open Golf Limited organised Safari Tour golf pro series.
The event, set to take place from November 5-9, 2019, at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, is sponsored by South Africa-based Pam Golding Properties and brings the total number of events in the Safari Tour to 11.
According to Theo van Rooyen, the tournament director, the management of the Resort is passionate about the Safari Tour and the platform it provides to regional professionals.
"At the moment, it is very difficult to make promises, but I do believe this one will be an annual event," said van Rooyen.
The Pam Golding Safari Open will be the fourth tournament sanctioned by the Safari Tour, following the Uganda Open, the Entebbe Open, and the Kitante Open.
The event will feature a total prize fund of $10,000 (Sh1 million) and will be run under the Safari Tour guidelines, which include a cut after two rounds and a requirement for players to shoot 86 gross and above to advance beyond the first round.
