On October 27, 2019, Arsenal coach Unai Emery faced the media to address the controversy surrounding Granit Xhaka's confrontation with supporters during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Emery stated that Xhaka should apologise for his actions, saying, "Yes (he should apologise). We make mistakes, we need to apologise and we suggested for him to do that."
Emery also expressed concern for Xhaka's well-being, stating that he was "devastated – devastated and sad" and that the team was speaking with him to offer support.
Regarding Xhaka's future as captain, Emery remained tight-lipped, saying, "At the moment I am not speaking and I don't want to think about that."
Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil, who has been left out of every matchday squad since the League Cup third-round win over Nottingham Forest on September 24, will be part of the travelling group for the League Cup match at Liverpool.
Emery confirmed that Ozil had a good conversation with him and that he had not changed his idea about the German playmaker.
