On October 30, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru sounded a warning to Kenyans about the potential consequences of a William Ruto presidency.
Waiguru claimed that Ruto's history of embezzlement and corruption would make him a poor choice for president, and that he might auction Kenya to the highest bidder, possibly the Chinese.
She pointed to Ruto's involvement in the Anglo Leasing scandal and his alleged misappropriation of public funds as evidence of his unfitness for office.
Waiguru also criticized Ruto's handling of the Kiambaa church massacre, in which dozens of people were killed during a church service. She claimed that Ruto's actions that day showed a callous disregard for human life and made him unfit to lead the country.
Furthermore, Waiguru accused Ruto of being driven by a desire for revenge against his political enemies, rather than a genuine desire to serve the people of Kenya.
She called on Kenyans to be cautious and not to be swayed by Ruto's promises of handouts and other forms of patronage.
Waiguru's comments come as Ruto is increasingly seen as a potential candidate for the presidency in the 2022 elections.
