On October 30, 2019, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa called on the Ministry of Sports to offer support to the Harambee Starlets and Harambee Stars ahead of their international assignments.
The Starlets were set to play against Zambia in the Olympic Qualifier, with the first leg scheduled for November 8 in Nairobi and the second leg to be played on November 12 in Zambia.
The Harambee Stars were also set to travel to Egypt for their AFCON Qualifier, with the first leg to be played on November 11, 2019, and the second leg to be played on November 15, 2019, in Cairo, followed by a match against Togo on November 19, 2019, at the MISC Kasarani.
However, due to a lack of funding from the Sports Ministry, the National teams risked pulling out of these competitions.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa stated, "FKF has diligently communicated to the Sports Ministry and the Sports Fund to come in and fund the national teams. We have, however, not received any response from the Ministry, which is frustrating."
He added, "We are calling out on the Ministry to come out with reasons why we cannot get funding from the Sports Fund despite having made numerous requests for the same."
