On October 30, 2019, John Makwata, a prolific striker for AFC Leopards, was awarded the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) player of the month for August and September.
Makwata's impressive goal-scoring form earned him the award, with 14 votes, ahead of Gor Mahia's Kenneth Muguna and AFC Leopards' Benjamin Ochan.
With just four matches played over the period, Makwata helped himself to three match-winning goals, which swayed the votes in his favor.
His efforts were recognized by SJAK, and he was awarded a 49-inch television set courtesy of LG electronics.
Makwata's goal-scoring form has also caught the attention of the national team, Harambee Stars, and he hopes to make a comeback to the team and relieve the burden on Michael Olunga.
"My target is to score more goals and hopefully reach twenty or even surpass come end of the season. I also want to make a comeback to the national team and help out because i know i can. With my current form i can do so much," he said.
