Kenyan comedian and YouTube sensation Churchill has become the second YouTuber in Kenya to reach over a million subscribers, earning him a coveted Gold Play Button from YouTube. However, the award was stolen en-route to Kenya, leaving Churchill without the recognition he deserved.
Speaking to Mpasho, Churchill expressed his disappointment, saying,
‘Can you imagine it was stolen and today is my birthday?’
The incident occurred just hours before Churchill's birthday, making the loss even more poignant.
YouTube has since ordered a replacement Gold Play Button, which will be presented to Churchill once it arrives. According to Dorothy Ooko, Head Of Communications & Public Affairs, Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, the new button will serve as another chance to celebrate Churchill's achievement.
‘You might wonder why we did not open the box. As we ordered the button the gold was stolen so we have ordered another button. When the new one comes, we will use it as another chance to celebrate Churchill.’
Churchill's achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft. He is the second YouTuber in Kenya to reach over a million subscribers, following in the footsteps of Citizen TV.
