On October 30, 2019, Philip Ewoton was elected as the chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) in Turkana County.
Mr. Ewoton, a seasoned businessman, succeeds Lorogoi Ejore, who has been in the position for six years.
He won the election through a delegates-based process from the six Turkana sub-counties, five months after a protracted legal battle with Ejore was resolved.
"I intend to expand the membership in Turkana chapter from the current 3,000 to 20,000 in the next three years," Ewoton said in a telephone interview with the Business Daily on Tuesday.
He plans to conduct regular sub-county visits to educate members on the importance of being a KNCCI member and work closely with the national and county government to mainstream Vision 2030 activities in the chamber's strategic plan.
Ewoton also pledged to conduct trade fairs in conjunction with the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) to showcase investment opportunities in Turkana.
