With an estimated 90% of Kenyans having access to the Internet, social media and digital marketing have become essential tools for businesses to reach potential clients. According to statistics by the Communication Authority of Kenya, this trend has paved the way for entrepreneurs like Jenna, who grew up in Nakuru and developed an interest in digital marketing in 2015 after completing her tertiary education.
Initially, Jenna used a USSD to establish her online presence, but her hard work and persistence have paid off, making her one of the most sought-after digital marketers and influencers in the industry. She has worked with numerous corporate brands and SMEs, and now desires to set up a company to solidify her position in the digital marketing business.
Belva Digital's founder and CEO, Fred Kithinzi, shared his entrepreneurship advice, emphasizing the importance of branding and positioning one's team in the initial years of business. He highlighted the need to market the business and pitch to as many clients as possible to be top of mind when they require services.
Additionally, Fred stressed the value of learning while still in employment, as it provides a unique opportunity to understand how a business works and gain valuable knowledge. He cited his own experience at Google, where he learned about digital marketing and later used this knowledge to set up his business.
Fred also emphasized the importance of building a strong network, as it is the foundation of a successful business. He advised entrepreneurs to create a team as they grow their business, starting with specialized functions and outsourcing only when necessary.
