On October 30, 2019, Kenya's government announced plans to ban the use of raw manure in farming to safeguard the country's agricultural exports.

Agriculture Principal Secretary Hamadi Boga stated that the bacterial viral load in fresh animal waste compromises food safety standards, which could harm Kenya's international market for farm produce.

Despite calls from farmers to relax rules for Chinese avocado importers, the government remains adamant that there will be no such engagements. Instead, farmers are urged to form cooperatives to conform to the standards.

Only one avocado exporter has managed to meet the stringent standards set by the Chinese market, highlighting the need for farmers to adapt to the new regulations.
