Published on October 30, 2019, Silverstone Airline has been at the center of a recent string of flight mishaps.

The airline's latest incident occurred on Monday when their Dash 8-300 aircraft, registration 5Y-BWG, made an emergency landing at Eldoret International Airport after losing its number 3-wheel assembly during take-off from Lodwar.

According to the airline, preliminary inspection revealed that the likely root cause of the incident was bearing failure.

The aircraft was inspected, certified, and released back to service in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

Another incident involving a Fokker 50 aircraft, registration 5Y-SMT, occurred on Sunday at the Wilson Airport. The aircraft clipped a Beechcraft King Air 200, registration 5Y-SSB, registered to East African Safari Air Express Limited.

The airline clarified that the Fokker 50 was not taking off for a flight but was undergoing routine engine ground runs for maintenance purposes.

Wilson Airport's congested ramp was cited as a contributing factor to the incident.

Earlier this month, a Silverstone plane skidded off the runway and crashed at Wilson Airport while departing for Lamu, injuring 9 of the 50 passengers on board.

Following these incidents, a Parliamentary committee on Transport and Public Works summoned Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to appear on Friday to discuss regulatory compliance of local airlines.
