On October 30, 2019, a shocking revelation emerged about the Sports Ministry's Ksh1 billion expenditure. The money was allegedly used to facilitate the removal of mobile clinics from the National Youth Service yard in Miritini.
According to reports, the clinics were moved from the yard, furnished, and equipped to the required standards before being distributed countrywide. This move has left many athletes struggling with sponsorship, with the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) recently announcing the cancellation of the Harambee Starlets training due to lack of funds.
The National Assembly Committee on Sports was shocked to learn that the money was paid to the Ministry of Health to furnish the clinics. The 99 containers, bought at a cost of Ksh99 million, were moved from the NYS yard in Miritini, where they had been since December 2015.
MPs were angered by the fund managers for ignoring pleas for funding by sports officials and instead choosing to bail out the Health Ministry. Legally, there is nothing wrong with the Ministry of Health getting a slice of cash from the Fund.
