On October 30, 2019, the entertainment world lost a legend when John Witherspoon passed away at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77.

Known for his iconic voice as Pops in The Wayans Brothers and Gramps in The Boondocks animated series, Witherspoon's humor transcended generations and racial boundaries, making him a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.

A family representative announced his death, saying, 'It is with the deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today... He is survived by his wife Angela, and his sons JD, Alexander, and a large family.'

Witherspoon's impact extended beyond comedy, as he also made appearances in music videos like Jay-Z's I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me) and featured in Chance The Rapper's album The Big Day on the skit track Photo Ops.

He will be deeply missed by fans and colleagues alike. RIP John Witherspoon.
