On a Mother's Day post in 2019, Janet Mbugua shared a heartfelt message about the importance of hygiene in children's lives, but little did her fans know that she was going through a tough time in her personal life.
At the time, Mbugua was a journalist at NTV, but she had to make a difficult decision to quit her job to focus on her family. In an interview with Betty Kyallo on her K24 weekend show, Mbugua revealed that she was experiencing burnout and had lost touch with her son, Huru.
'I was going through a lot when I decided to take a break,' Mbugua said. 'I was going through burnout. I also did not have a relationship with Huru. Yes, I would interact with him, but the nanny did most of the stuff.'
What broke Mbugua's heart was when Huru failed to recognize her as 'mum' anymore. This was a turning point for her, and she realized that she had to choose between her career and her family.
As she reflected on that moment, Mbugua said, 'There is a day I wanted to hug him, but he turned away from me.'
It's a heartbreaking decision that many mothers can relate to, and Mbugua's story serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing family and taking care of oneself.
