On October 30, 2019, a shocking revelation emerged about the Sports Ministry's Ksh1 billion expenditure.
The money was allegedly used to facilitate the removal of mobile clinics from the National Youth Service yard in Miritini, Mombasa County.
According to reports, the clinics were moved from the yard, where they had been since December 2015, and were then furnished and equipped to the required standards before being distributed countrywide.
The National Assembly Committee on Sports was stunned to learn that the funds were paid to the Ministry of Health to furnish the clinics.
MPs were angered by the fund managers for ignoring pleas for funding by sports officials and instead choosing to bail out the Health Ministry.
Legally, there is nothing wrong with the Ministry of Health receiving a slice of cash from the Fund.
However, the move has sparked outrage among athletes, particularly the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF), which recently announced the cancellation of the Harambee Starlets training due to lack of funds.
