On October 30, 2019, police in Trans Nzoia County made a significant arrest in Kitale town, apprehending three men in possession of 176 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, a Beretta, and other electronic devices.
According to County Police Commander Ayub Ali Gitonga, the suspects were arrested in Lavington estate following a tip-off from members of the public on Tuesday.
The police commander revealed that the three men were being investigated for stealing a Beretta and 176 rounds of ammunition from a prominent businessman, a registered firearm holder, in Kitale town on October 23.
Gitonga expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation, stating, "We managed to recover the ammunition and the Beretta with the help of the public who volunteered information to us."
Police investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigations are completed. The police are also interrogating all workers in the home and other family members to determine how the firearm was stolen from the house.
Among the recovered magazines, three did not belong to the businessman, leading the police to investigate the possibility of another gun being in the possession of the suspects.
