Homa Bay Mother's Plea for Help to Save Her Sick Daughter ¶
Stella Wabomba, a mother of three from Homa Bay, is facing a daunting challenge in saving her five-year-old daughter Larissa, who suffers from sickle cell disease (SCD).
Speaking to Nyakundi Report, Wabomba revealed that Larissa was diagnosed with SCD at just three months old and has been in and out of hospitals ever since. The young girl has to take five different medicines every day to manage her condition and avoid painful sickle-cell crises.
However, to completely heal from the disease, Larissa needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant in India, which will cost the family a staggering KSh 5 million. Wabomba, a primary school teacher, is now appealing to well-wishers to help raise the funds for her daughter's treatment.
Wabomba's story is a heart-wrenching one, as she has already lost one of her children to SCD in 2013. She is now living in constant fear of losing her daughter to the same disease. The family's situation has also taken a toll on their marriage, with Wabomba's husband blaming her for the sickness.
Despite the challenges, Wabomba remains hopeful that her daughter will receive the treatment she needs to live a normal life. She is now relying on the kindness of strangers to help raise the funds for Larissa's bone marrow transplant.
According to Wabomba, Larissa's condition is not contagious and cannot be contracted from someone else. The disease is caused by inheriting two abnormal hemoglobin genes, one from each parent.
Those who wish to donate towards Larissa's operation in India can do so through M-changa.
