The State Department is reminding applicants that the registration period for the 2021 Diversity Visa program, also known as the Green Card Lottery, ends in a week.

Starting on October 2nd, 2019, the registration period has been open for the DV-2021 program, which makes 50,000 permanent resident visas available to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States in the past five years.

As of November 5th, 2019, at 12pm EST, the registration period will close, and applicants are urged not to wait until the last minute to register, as the registration website may become overwhelmed by huge traffic from last-minute entrants.

For the first time in the program's history, applicants must have a valid passport from their country of citizenship to participate in the lottery.

The State Department also emphasizes the importance of filling out all required information and providing truthful answers, as entries with missing or inaccurate information will be disqualified, even if they win the lottery.

Applicants are also advised to register only once, as multiple entries will result in disqualification. A confirmation email with a number means the entry was successfully submitted, and applicants should not attempt to register again.

The results of the DV-2021 lottery are expected to be available in May 2020, and applicants are advised to keep their confirmation number until at least September 2020, as it will be needed to check whether they won the lottery.
