On Tuesday, 29 October, four governors from Central Kenya - Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), and Martin Wambora (Embu) - stated that they will only support the BBI project if it translates into increasing budget allocations for the counties.
According to Governor Kimemia, the chairman of the Central Region Economic Bloc, the governors will examine the BBI report content once released and give a way forward.
As Governor Kimemia stated, “As we have said before through the Council of Governors, we will support any initiative that increases allocations to the counties for development. Therefore, we will examine the BBI report and only support if it satisfies the interests of our regions.”
The county Chiefs urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure the report is tabled for public debate, claiming it would tone down the political rhetoric.
