On October 23, 2019, Patrick Kimani Muregi was arrested with 30 rolls of marijuana worth Sh600. He claimed the police brutally assaulted him in an effort to force him to confess that he was hiding a gun.

According to court documents, Muregi was arrested for stealing and taken to Huruma Police Station where he was allegedly tortured before being arraigned on trumped-up charges.

Principal Magistrate Merisa Opondo was told that Muregi was hanged on metal bars with handcuffs and his genitals were allegedly pulled.

Muregi further claimed that he pleaded with the police to allow him to call his father to take the officers to his room for a search, but instead, they broke in and took items they claimed he had stolen.

Following the failed police operation to retrieve the said gun, Muregi alleged that the officers vowed to implicate him, which led to the marijuana peddling charges.

Muregi denied the charges and claimed he sustained injuries on his genitals, knees, and hands. He appealed to be taken to hospital.

On October 30, 2019, the court ordered Muregi to be taken to Mbagathi Hospital urgently and summoned Huruma Police Station Commander to appear in court to respond to Murengi’s allegations.

The accused was granted a Sh 30,000 cash bail. Hearing of the case starts on March 4, 2020.
