Former President Daniel Moi's health has been a subject of concern in recent days, with some reports suggesting that his condition was critical.

However, his family has now come out to allay these fears, stating that he is receiving medical attention from a professional team led by his personal physician, Dr David Silverstein.

According to a statement issued by Mr Lee Njiru, Moi's press secretary, the former Head of State is 'alert and conscious of his surroundings'.

Mr Njiru asked the media to refrain from publishing alarming statements, and instead wait for official medical bulletins.

On Monday, sources close to the family had told the Nation that Moi was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital on Saturday after developing breathing complications.

This is the second time in two weeks that the 95-year-old former president has been attended to at the city hospital.
