Published on October 29, 2019, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has hinted that Mesut Ozil could replace Granit Xhaka as captain of the team ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool.
Granit Xhaka has fallen out of favor with Arsenal fans after a row during the Gunners' draw with Crystal Palace.
Emery revealed that he held talks with Ozil, who has only made two appearances for the North London club this season, to discuss his role in the team.
"That conversation this morning was because I wanted to listen about how he was thinking now to help us tomorrow.. It was a very good conversation. Tomorrow he is in the group," Emery said.
Emery also expressed his need for Ozil's quality, skill, and consistency in the team, saying, "We need his quality, his skill. We need his consistency. We need his positive mentality. Then we need him to help us on the pitch. I want now like in the pre-season, like a month ago, for him to help us on the pitch,"
When asked if Ozil could get the captain's armband against Liverpool, Emery replied, "It depends. He could be yes."
