The Diversity Visa program, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is a highly anticipated opportunity for individuals from countries with low immigration rates to the United States to secure a permanent resident visa.
As of October 2nd, 2019, the registration period for the DV-2021 program has been open for nearly a month, and it will come to a close on November 5th, 2019, at 12pm EST.
The State Department, which oversees the program, cautions applicants not to wait until the last minute to register, as the website may experience high traffic and technical issues.
For the first time in the program's history, applicants must possess a valid passport from their country of citizenship to be eligible for the lottery.
Applicants are also reminded to provide accurate and truthful information when filling out the registration form, as entries with missing or incorrect information will be disqualified, even if they are selected for the lottery.
Additionally, applicants are urged to register only once, as multiple entries will result in disqualification. A confirmation email with a unique number indicates a successful submission, and applicants should not attempt to register again.
Results of the DV-2021 lottery are expected to be announced in May 2020, and applicants are advised to retain their confirmation number until September 2020, as it will be necessary to check their status.
