On November 17, the 12th edition of the Kass Marathon will take place in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties, featuring a new half marathon race.
The event received a significant boost when eight firms, including title sponsor Lotto Foundation, pledged Sh20 million in sponsorship during the launch at the PanAfric Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday.
According to Julius Lamaon, CEO of Kass Media, the decision to introduce the half marathon was driven by requests from elite athletes, who wanted a longer distance to compete in.
The half marathon will start near the Koitalel Arap Samoei University College in Nandi and end at the Eldoret Sports Club, with a target of 2,500 participants.
"We have received strong response and requests from a group of youngsters mainly from 10,000m track and cross country wanting to compete in 21km as a launch pad to full marathon," said Lamaon.
The main 42km race, which targets 1,200 runners, will start in Kapsabet, Nandi County, and end at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County.
Other events include a five-kilometre fun and corporate run, expected to draw 6,000 participants, and a 10km race that has been replaced by the half marathon.
Registration for the event started two weeks ago at various points in Eldoret and Kapsabet, and online at www.kassmarathon.com, for Sh500.
