Toyota Kenya Dominates Cheki Car Awards

On October 29, 2019, Toyota Kenya made a strong statement at the inaugural Cheki Car Awards, scooping 15 awards in various categories.

The Cheki Car Awards aimed to educate Kenyans on car specifications, helping them make informed decisions when buying a car.

Toyota Kenya's Toyota Landcruiser was voted car of the year by Kenyans, beating the Subaru Outback from Subaru Kenya and the Toyota Fielder from Toyota Kenya.

CMC Motors' Mazda Demio won the best budget car category, with Toyota Kenya's Toyota Vitz coming in second and Honda Fit from Honda Kenya in third.

Toyota Kenya redeemed itself in the best family car category, taking all three top positions with the Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vanguard, and Toyota Noah.

DT Dobie's Volkswagen Golf and AUDI A3 took the first and third spots in the best hatchback car category, with Toyota Kenya's Toyota Auris in second.

Honda Fit dominated the best city car category, beating Toyota Vitz and Mazda Demio from CMC Motors.

DT Dobie's Mercedes Benz brand won the best luxury car category, with the Mercedes S350 taking the prize and Toyota Landcruiser in second.

Subaru Kenya's Subaru Impreza STI dominated the best high-performance car category, beating Nissan GTR from Nissan Kenya and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO from Simba Corp.

General Motors' Isuzu N-Series won the best commercial car category, with Toyota Kenya's Toyota Hiace in second and Toyota Hilux in third.

In the best motorbike category, Honda CBR from Honda Kenya took the top spot, followed by Yamaha DT 175 from Toyota Kenya and Bajaj Boxer.

Cheki Kenya's Chief Executive Officer Resian Leteipan said the awards aimed to help first-time car owners make good decisions.

"Most first-time car owners struggled with deciding which car would best suit their current needs owing to close similarities between different makes within specific categories," Leteipan said.
