A class eight pupil in Migori County has been left distraught after discovering his name was missing from the list of candidates sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Emmanuel Odhiambo, a pupil at Break Through Academy, a private school, was registered to sit his examinations at St. Joseph Ombo Primary, a public school. However, when he joined 20 of his colleagues for a rehearsal on Monday, he realized his name was missing from the list.

Despite being assured that he would be able to sit for his exam, Odhiambo was shocked when he was locked out and not given an index number. His mother, Teresa Otieno, expressed fears of losing her son, saying he has been performing well in school.

On a separate note, two candidates in Mandera County will not sit for their National Examinations in Primary School, KCPE, which started on Tuesday morning. One of the students died on Monday, while another fled to neighboring Bulla Hawa town in Somalia for fear of the exams.

Additionally, two previously blockaded schools in Baringo will finally administer national exams after years of community conflicts that led to their closure. Mukutani and Kapindasum Primary Schools in Baringo South had been forced to shut down for three years, putting the future of pupils who could not sit for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations in jeopardy.

Furthermore, in Kilifi County, more than 400 candidates were evacuated from Kauma and Ganze to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination in safe zones after their schools were submerged by floods. Kilifi County Director of Education, Eunice Khaemba, confirmed that 15 schools were affected by the flash floods, including 10 in Ganze and five in Kauma.

Lastly, a 15-year-old pupil from Lomayana Primary School, Baringo South, gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday morning before sitting for her mathematics Paper in Baringo referral Hospital. She will sit for her remaining papers in the hospital.
