Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa's woes have deepened, with her constituents planning to collect signatures to recall her from parliament. The move comes after they lost faith in her leadership and an incident where she stormed the home of a local ODM aspirant.
On October 29, 2019, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, Michael Kingi (Magarini), Ken Chonga (Kilifi South), and Kilifi Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu, along with about 30 Kilifi ODM members of the county assembly, threw their weight behind the move. They claimed Ms Jumwa had offended the party and her constituents, and locals no longer wanted her in the National Assembly as their representative.
According to the MPs, the incident that led to the move was when Ms Jumwa stormed the home of then-ODM Ganda ward aspirant Reuben Katana, who was meeting his agents on the eve of the by-election.
“Aisha viewed herself as a leader who had reached the top of the politics sphere but her days are numbered. We shall tackle her ourselves in Malindi by-election once she is recalled by constituents,” Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said.
