On October 29, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at the University of Nairobi, leaving students in mourning. A colleague was fatally hit by an ambulance at the institution's gate.

Students took to the streets to protest the death, with Director of Corporate Affairs John Orindi describing the protest as peaceful. 'The students lost one of their colleagues and today they decided to hold a peaceful demonstration along the busy University Way. The protest is already over,' Mr Orindi said.

During the protest, motorists were forced to make abrupt u-turns as they approached the roundabout, which had been blocked by the students.

According to eyewitnesses, the student who was knocked down by the ambulance was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
