On October 23, 2019, Patrick Kimani Muregi was arrested for stealing and taken to Huruma Police Station in Nairobi. He claims the police brutally assaulted him in an effort to force him to admit to hiding a gun.

According to Muregi, he was hanged on metal bars with handcuffs while police pulled his genitals, forcing him to reveal the whereabouts of the gun. He pleaded with the officers to allow him to call his father to take them to his room for a search, but they broke in and carted away items they claimed he had stolen.

Following the failed police operation, Muregi claims the officers vowed to implicate him, which led to the bhang peddling charges. He also sustained injuries on his genitals, knees, and hands and appealed to be taken to hospital.

Principal Magistrate Merisa Opondo of Makandara Law Courts ordered Muregi to be taken to Mbagathi Hospital urgently and summoned the Huruma Police Station Commander to appear in court to respond to Muregi's claims.

On October 29, 2019, Muregi was granted a Sh 30,000 cash bail. The hearing of the case is set to start on March 4, 2020.
