Edwin Abonyo, husband of the late Bomet governor Dr Joyce Laboso, spoke candidly about his grief in an interview with a local radio station on October 29, 2019.

Abonyo, who has been married to Laboso for 35 years, expressed his deep sorrow over her passing, saying that even though he knew cancer was a possibility, he couldn't prepare himself for the loss.

“Death is not something that you get ready for even if you already know what will happen next when cancer reaches a certain point, you cannot do anything about it especially when it comes knocking for the second time after remission,” he said.

Abonyo also shared fond memories of his time with Laboso, including her love, care, and cooking, which he still misses dearly.

“I miss her love and care and cooking even though she did not frequently go to kitchen because of her tiring work but we used to go out for dinner during weekends…I still cry while alone in the house especially when I remember what we used to do together for the past 35 years that we were married,” he said.

Despite his grief, Abonyo expressed his intention to join politics, citing his desire to prove himself as a hardworking individual and to show that politics can be a clean game.

“Politics is a clean game only those who are playing it are dirty. Many are not genuine as their main aim is to enrich themselves,” he said.
