On October 29, 2019, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced that it had called off training sessions for Harambee Starlets due to a lack of funds.

The team was set to face Zambia in the Olympics qualification on November 8th, with the second leg on 12th November.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa expressed frustration over the lack of funding from the Sports Ministry, stating that the national teams face high risks of not participating in international competitions.

“FKF has diligently communicated to the Sports Ministry and the Sports Fund to come in and fund the national teams. We have, however, not received any response from the Ministry, which is frustrating,” said FKF President Nick Mwendwa.

He added, “We are calling out on the Ministry to come out with reasons why we cannot get funding from the Sports Fund despite having made numerous requests for the same.”

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars, the national soccer team, begins the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualification campaign on November 15th with a game against Egypt in Cairo.

The team, coached by Francis Kimanzi, was beaten 1-0 by Mozambique in a friendly match played at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi two weeks ago.
