Published on October 29, 2019, Liverpool's midfielder James Milner expressed confidence in the team's ability to win the Premier League title this season.
After a triumphant Champions League campaign last season, Liverpool finished second in the Premier League, just a point behind Manchester City. The team's strong start this season has seen them lead the league by six points.
Speaking to the Guardian, Milner said, 'This season we have a team that can do it. I think there's a calm around the club, both inside and outside, and people are confident we can get it done.'
He added, 'Hopefully winning that first trophy, the European Cup, as a squad will give us the experience to win the league.'
With Liverpool's last top-flight league title dating back to 1990, Milner acknowledged the team's expectations for a tight title race, with Manchester City pushing them every step of the way.
He noted, 'City are so good they're capable of winning every game. The gap is not that big so we have to just keep pushing and not worry too much about the title.'
Before resuming their Premier League campaign at promoted Aston Villa on Saturday, Liverpool will host Arsenal in a fourth-round League Cup encounter on Wednesday.
