On October 8, 2019, Kenya's Harambee Starlets players lined up before their match against Ghana's Black Queens at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi, during Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifying.

However, the team's future is uncertain due to a lack of funding from the government. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa explained on Tuesday that the Harambee Starlets have suffered for the last year without government support.

The team is scheduled to play Zambia in a two-legged 2020 Olympics qualification match between November 8-14. But without government funding, FKF is struggling to meet its financial obligations.

'If something does not change, we will not play Zambia. I do not know why the Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia does not fund us,' said Mwendwa.
